Vaping and tobacco use have become a prominent concern among teens in our community. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a sharp rise in e-cigarette use, flavored vape products, and misconceptions about their safety. Many teens believe vaping is harmless, but the reality is that nicotine can quickly lead to addiction, impact brain development, and cause lasting damage to lung health.
We’re addressing this issue because prevention starts with awareness. By providing accurate information, resources, and opportunities for youth and parents to get involved, we can work together to create a healthier, vape-free, and tobacco-free future for Orange County.
Protect Your Lungs, Protect Your Future
Your brain is still developing until around age 25—and that’s important to know. Using tobacco products, including e-cigarettes (vapes), before your brain is fully developed can impact memory, learning, attention, and how you handle stress and emotions.
The good news? We are here to help! Avoiding vaping and tobacco products protects your health, keeps your mind and body performing at their best, and lowers your risk of long-term problems like cancer, heart disease, and chronic lung conditions.
You have the power to protect your future.
Every healthy choice today builds a stronger tomorrow.
Tobacco Free Orange County advocates for tobacco-free initiatives throughout local Orange County communities to create a healthier, tobacco-free environment. The program provides free tobacco, vape, and substance use prevention education to students, parents, school administrators, staff, faith-based organizations, and community groups in the cities of Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Mission Viejo, Orange, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente.
Education efforts focus on reducing youth access to tobacco and vape products, promoting smoke-free environments, increasing awareness of flavor bans, and supporting tobacco policy implementation.
The program also leads the Tobacco Free Orange County Youth Advisory Committee, a group of youth ages 13–25 dedicated to advocating for tobacco-free policies and positive community change. Participants gain leadership and public speaking experience, receive community service hours and letters of recommendation, and earn a certificate of completion.
Tobacco Free Orange County is funded by the Orange County Health Care Agency.
