ADVANCING TOBACCO-FREE LIVING IN ORANGE COUNTY

{title}

Tobacco Free Orange County advocates for Tobacco-Free Initiatives throughout Orange County communities to create a healthier, tobacco-free environment. The program provides free tobacco, vape, and substance use prevention education to students, parents, school administrators, staff, faith-based organizations, and community groups in the cities of Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente.

Education efforts will focus on reducing youth access to tobacco and vape products, promoting smoke-free recreational and non-recreational environments, advancing smoke-free multi-unit housing protections, and supporting the implementation and strengthening of Tobacco Retail Licensing policies.

The program also leads the Tobacco Free Orange County Youth Advisory Committee, a group of youth ages 13–25 dedicated to advocating for tobacco-free policies and positive community change. Participants gain leadership and public speaking experience, receive community service hours and letters of recommendation, and earn a certificate of completion.

WHAT WE ARE ACCOMPLISHING

Supporting Tobacco-Free Communities

Communities throughout South Orange County continue to strengthen tobacco prevention efforts through local ordinances and California public health laws that help reduce exposure to tobacco and vape products.

Across Dana Point, Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente, tobacco control policies support healthier public spaces by:

  • Restricting smoking and vaping in many public areas, workplaces, recreational spaces, parks, and beaches
  • Enforcing California's flavored tobacco sales restrictions
  • Requiring tobacco retailers to comply with state Tobacco
  • Retail Licensing requirements
  • Supporting smoke-free housing and public environment protections through California law
  • Including regulations that address traditional tobacco products, electronic smoking devices, and vaping products
